Gather your little ghouls and goblins October 31st, and join Oklahomans for Equality as we celebrate Halloween and our President Toby Jenkins' 50th birthday, from 6-9pm at the Equality Center (4th and Kenosha, downtown). The little ones can trick-or-treat throughout the Equality Center, and childcare and kid's games and events are scheduled all evening. Don't forget your own costume! Tulsa LGBT Families is hosting a parents happy hour on Tuesday, October 6 @ 5:30 pm at the White Lion Pub (6927 S. Canton, at 71st and Yale). We'll "SIP AND SHOW" so bring photos of the little one(s). Food and drink are on you, but dinners all run under $10! The White Lion Pub is an authentic British pub with a huge variety of imported beers.

The Philbrook Museum hosts a free family event on Saturday, August 8 from 10:30 am - 4pm. Experiment with fun materials to make hands-on art projects, go on a scavenger hunt, take a family-friendly tour of the museum, and so much more on this day specifically for families. Tell them you are from Oklahomans for Equality to get a free children's "My Museum" kit, filled with art supplies and a special activity based on a current exhibit. Click here for more info! Legal Victory for LGBT Issues in Schools

It's somewhat sad that a victory means that students now have the support of the law to be able to search for "LGBT" in their school libraries and not have only anti-LGBT material come up. Nevertheless, success is success! The story is here.

Their website explains the many services they offer:

"Center Kids programs include support groups for LGBT parents and prospective parents; trainings for teachers and school administrators; advocacy and activist efforts; support around alternative insemination, adoption, surrogacy and nontraditional cooperative parenting arrangements; forums on issues such as custody when LGBT parents separate or financial planning for alternative families; and recreational programs for children 8 and under (Halloween Parties, Holiday Parties, Play Days, etc.)." Schools considering LGBT curriculum

Alameda County, California, is considering a curriculum which will include lessons on LGBT individuals. The anti-bullying curriculum is under review to cover gay-bullying, and the county is considering one lesson a year to focus on LGBT issues. This, of course, if provoking a firestorm of controversy. What do you think? Assuming it would be possible for Tulsa schools to be more inclusive of LGBT issues, do you think they should be? How should they go about it? Family Equality Council Outing

The Family Equality Council is hosting a week-long LGBT outing. "Scheduled for August 1-8, 2009 in Provincetown, MA, Family Week is the largest gathering of LGBT Families and their friends in the United States. The 14th annual Family Week brings to you workshops, social gatherings, meals and much more for all ages," explains their website. I don't know much about this, but if you've ever been or known someone that has, please leave a comment!

Victory in Iowa!

The Iowa Supreme Court unanimously decided today that a 1998 law limiting marriage to a man and a woman was unconstitutional. Same sex marriage in Iowa will be legal in as few as 21 days. See the NYTimes story, here.
